Building Your Business Success
<<<Part One>>>
As an independent contractor, you have
the right to run your business however you choose as long as
it abides by state and federal laws and company mandates.
Just because you follow the rules does not ensure your
success, and sometimes it may feel like the rules in place
only hinder your success.
This is not true! Success
can be measured in many ways, but the only way agents and
companies can look at success is the bottom line.
It's important to have a healthy bottom line in order to survive as a business. Most believe in the 80/20 rule: 80% of the business is done by 20% of the agents. If this is true, then 80% of the real estate agents would be out of business, and in fluctuating markets, the 20% of agents that are doing business would dominate the industry. What are the keys to success? How do you become the 20% doing 80%? How do I get to the top without crushing the bottom line? Keys to Success: Know your plan - Create a business plan - this means write it down and look at it frequently - work toward the goals that you have written down and find ways to help achieve your goals. You can't be on top if you don't know how to get their... Work your plan - It's easy to take time off, change your mind or put off until tomorrow what you don't feel like doing today. Don't say you'll work twice as hard tomorrow, because it will never happen. Stick to your plan every day, and do not deviate for any reason. The only person that ensure your success is you... Be realistic - Sure, it would be nice to be a multi-millionaire by the end of the week, but honestly, if you're still wasting your money on the lottery you're probably wasting your time as well. Your goals should be tiered. If you want to have a million in personal income, start with a number that can be reached within an annual timeframe. It is possible to increase your income by 3 or 4 times within a year, but if you're not already making $250,000.00 per year, your goal might not be attainable. Be committed - You don't need a straight jacket to be committed, but you do need the intensity and drive that some may consider insane. If you're going to be in the real estate business, you need to let everyone know you're in the real estate business. You would be wasting your time if you didn't hand your business card to every person you met. Insane? Yes, but any one of the hundreds of people you come into contact with can bring you business. "You gave me a card last week!" - Response: " Great! Have another, maybe you can give one to your friends..." Be consistent - It is easy to get discouraged, especially if you do not reach your goals. If you give up, then you have already lost. You must be prepared for rejection - dejection - other forms of business humiliation. The best salespeople are thick-skinned and let little affect the goals of their vision. The strong survive; the strongest, smartest, and most determined conquer all others.
