Work Smarter ... Get Smarter
(Take advantage of your benefits)

There are many reasons why people get into the real estate business. Some need a part time job, some saw the success of others and wanted to emulate it, and others have a desire to help people own part of an American Dream. Whatever your reason, you have been put through the paces of your state licensing classes and took the test - and most have gone on to take the continuing education necessary to stay in business with the basics of core law, ethics and appraisal; but what else have you learned?

A professional designation can set you apart from your competition, and give you professional status; but both buyers and sellers may have no idea what a GRI or CRS agent is unless you tell them.

Nearly every association offers local classes that can help build your course credits, but also give you insightful and useful information to help in your professional success. These courses also can help develop professional relationships with other agents, brokers and industry related professionals; all of which could potentially help you with your business success.

If you are trying to build your business, becoming part of your local business club, community organization or entrepreneurial association can help build your business network and success. Consider attending meetings so you can see what any particular group is doing in the community and how you can fit in. You may decide a particular group is not of interest, or you may find it is just the right fit. No matter what you decide about any particular group, you will learn the role of the group and have a better understanding of what they offer to your community.

Staying on top of your community events and publications is another way to give you an edge and put you a step above your competition. Imagine knowing the plans to open a shopping mall or chain store near a planned development before meeting with the seller; or that a preserve is slated for a vote across the street from the home you are going to show potential buyers? These types of development projects and assessments are common, but not always known to an agent who doesn't stay on top of the community.

It is important to receive regular continuing education and professional development. Take advantage of 'free' classes and seminars that can help you, and get involved in some aspect of your community. This will give you a wider visibility and help create the professional status that can help your business thrive!
