Use it ...
(or get buried by those who do)

Sometimes it seems like that old analogy "preaching to the choir",  but some of the best resources available for your business you already get. Yes, we'd like to boast that the Personal Business Mastery is the vital resource you need (and it is), but through your membership at NAR, you are provided with industry specific, professional advice on daily, weekly and monthly increments.

Realtor.org is a vital resource for every agent. If you think your vital resource is the monthly magazine, you're missing regular updates that can be critical to your success.

  • How Do I Use My Account?
As a member of the National Association of Realtors®, you are granted exclusive access to industry specific information that is not available anywhere else. Your login information should have been created for you when you first paid your dues. This information is available through your local association if you don't have it or remember it. You can also contact NAR and they will respond - but it may be faster to contact your local board.
  • What Information Can I Get?
NAR does a great job of pulling information from associations around the world; this information on property listings, sales, demographics and more are compiled in one place for easy access. They also provide advice, articles, scripts, forms and recordings on everything from personal marketing to tax and legal advice.
  • Why Should I Use It?
With over 1.2 million users worldwide, it is a resource you should use regularly. On average, only 10% of all agents access information more than once a month. This means that only 120,000 members regularly access information from NAR. Coincidently, this is the same amount of top real estate producers nationwide... do the math.

Top real estate producers understand that education is not just a way to get your continuing education credits, but it's vital to the ever changing market. We understand that a well rounded education in sales, marketing, promotion, interpersonal skills, mathematics, law, ethics and even psychology cannot make you a top producer, but it does give you a better understanding of how the industry works and what you need to do to succeed.

You can buy into a success plan, but it does not promise success. Education is something that provides information for your personal and professional growth; without it, your business may grow, but you won't.

There is a reason every state licensing commission requires continuing education... no, it's not to make your life miserable! The reason it is required by every state is that as a professional real estate agent you are responsible for keeping up to date on the latest changes. The only way the states can enforce your education is to make it required; they know that many real estate agents would not voluntarily learn.

Don't get us wrong... there is something to be said for experience, and there is no education like being a real estate agent working in the trenches. There is no substitution for actually working face to face with buyers and sellers... an experience that can only be understood by other real estate agents!

Keep working your plan!

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
~ Real Estate Edition ~

Q: I've heard of niche marketing... what is it and how can I do it?

A: Niche marketing is catering and targeting to a specific group or demographic. For example: If you want to target first time buyers you need to know what is the highest demand for the group. You also need to know what to say in your marketing that appeals to that particular group; keywords, phrases and images that appeal to the particular niche.

You can get more specific in your niche marketing, but you need to determine the wants, needs, desires, expectations and triggers for the target you are trying to market. If you are not sure what is the best niche market for you, start with a group you are familiar with or want to work. Sometimes you need to test different niche markets to see which one is right for you or will bring larger responses. Realtor.org has some basic tips if you type 'niche marketing' in the search box.
